Reading this thread made me think of when Prince and I found out we were expecting a baby - Prince phoned my Mom and I phoned his. My mom just said I can't believe you are bringing a child into this sytem of things, and Prince's Mom burst into tears of joy! Prince DB was absolutely stunned by my mother's reaction. She called me the next day to say she was excited about being a granny but it is so cruel to bring kids into this world, especially if they are not going to brought up in the truth.

Armish vs. JW
by Princess Daisy Boo ini watched an episode of greys anatomy last night, which featured a 23 year old girl, who had come from an armish family, and was dying of cancer.
she and a friend had left home at 16 and now that she was dying she wanted to go home to her family.
she could still talk to her family because she had not been baptised and therefore not shunned and her friend was shunned because she left after she was baptised.. now, as a non american, i don't know a whole lot about the armish, except what i have seen on movies and tv, but the similarity between the jws and the armish or puritans struck me last night.

l can't believe the WT would write something like that about another sect when they themselves do the same thing! As always, so bloody hypocritical!
I definitly must do some researching!

Hi JWD'ers
I watched an episode of Greys Anatomy last night, which featured a 23 year old girl, who had come from an Armish family, and was dying of cancer. She and a friend had left home at 16 and now that she was dying she wanted to go home to her family. Now, as a non american, I don't know a whole lot about the Armish, except what I have seen on movies and TV, but the similarity between the JWs and the Armish or Puritans struck me last night. Obviously, the JW's embrace technology to an extent (except for those pesky non JW websites) but I am curious to find out from you Americans about the perceptions, similarities and differences that exist between these sects.
Regards

Do You Recognize Your Baptism?
by sweetstuff ini was promised that this generation would no means pass away.
(live forever book, pg.
154) i brought this up, although it has probably been discussed before, because i am sure some people right now are worrying how to handle an elder's visit or call.

All I was thinking about was the pressies I would get
Huh... I didn't get pressies. all I got was a new copy of the NWT, you know - the small black one with gold on the outside, very zoosh...
I think I have a bone to pick with my family

Interesting tidbit from a bethalite
by Princess Daisy Boo inso my "bethalite" sister calls me last night for a chat (now i must digress slightly and say that conversations with my sister are few and far between - we have very little to say to each other and any calls to each other are merely out of duty) .
after all the small talk, she tells me that she was doing stocktake in the tuckshop for a change instead of the usual housekeeping job that she is meant to do.
i ask her why and she tells me that all the dept's within bethal who keep a supply of products have to do a stocktake in preparation for the big courtcase on friday.

Hi All
Unfortunatly I cannot give you much more information yet, will try and get some more information from Dear Sister as soon as possible but I need to make it not look so obvious - her and I talk very little as I mentioned in my first post, so two calls in two days might be a bit weird.I have tried to quiz my mom too, but to no avail. Both my mom and my sister are not fountains of information about this, they seem to be not clued up with the details. Essentially what it boils down to is that Bethal is a sweat shop and they have gotten away without paying taxes and paying their "employees" UIF and so on, and the goverment wants it to stop.
As another poster said, this is the major HQ for Africa and I am not sure where they would move if thing actually comes to pass. SA is probably the most advanced and modern country in Africa. The Bethal here is huge and would cost a fortune to move.
BTW My sister also told me that they are on a huge marketing drive (I can't remember her terminology) and they are having an "open day" soon where they are inviting all the surrounding business and neighbours to come and see what they are about... like they believe that if people see Bethal then they will be instantly convinced of the truth or something?
What annoys and frustrates me more than anything (and forgive for stating the obvious - I know we all feel like this) is that she (and so many others) just don't question anything - like why the hell can't women be in charge or at the very least be in positions of leadership.

Hi all
So my "bethalite" sister calls me last night for a chat (now I must digress slightly and say that conversations with my sister are few and far between - we have very little to say to each other and any calls to each other are merely out of duty)
So I ask what court case and she tells me that they are going to court because the government is wanting the JW's to be listed as a business and no longer a non profit organisation.
Apparently if they don't win the court case, then JW's here will have a problem, because we have employment equity laws here and this would mean that there would have to be a quota of "Sisters" on the branch commitee and other "unscriptural" things.
I am very curious to find out more about this court case and see how it plays out!

Royal Ramblings: Trouble in the Kingdom
by Princess Daisy Boo inpdb needs royal kick in the ass.... ok, lets start at the beginning... .
once upon a time, when princess db left school, she was instructed to find a job as going to varsity was not an option (obviously) and she wasn't planning on pioneering, so she found a job (at an insurance company), and remained in the same industry for the next 12 years.
it was sould destroying for pdb as she fancied herself to be a creative girl and going to work everyday to do a job she found absolutly boring was a trial for her.

PDB needs royal kick in the ass...
OK, lets start at the beginning...
Who knows whether is was just planets in alignment or whether is was a "thirdlife" crisis (as she was too young for a midlife and too old for a quarterlife crisis) but she decided that the time had come for her to get out of the industry that she hated and find something else. It just so happened that she came across a business for sale that she thought was perfect for her, it was just the thing to allow her to indulge her creative side and it seemed like it had the potential to prosper. Somehow she managed to convince Prince DB that this was just the thing and they took an additional bond on their palace and Princess DB bought the business.
Now at this point it is essntial to understand that Prince DB is the prince of stability. He likes to be sure of every cent in his bank account whereas Princess DB is the princess of impulsiveness and doesn't mind living on the edge.
Six months passed and the royal coffers were becoming less and less full. Princess DB's business was taking a bit of time to prosper and finances in the Kingdom of Daisy Boo were strained. Prince DB was starting to make bitchy comments to Princess DB about the lack of money. Princess DB was sad and overcome with guilt at what her impulsive decision to buy a business was doing to the kingdom and more importantly what it was doing to her relationship with Prince DB. She started to lose motivation and become defeatist and less and less sure of her ability to make a success of her business and spent (or wasted - depending on your perspective) more and more time on JWD and Facebook, in an attempt to avoid confronting the issues that faced her.
And now Princess DB doesn't know what to do... in order to live happily ever after!

A couple of weeks ago my Mom told me of a disagreement she had with on of her family members, one that is a witness but somewhat "weak" - basically my Mom got upset because she told my Mom that all JWs are so negative an pessimistic... always lamenting about how bad this system of things is and how the end must come, it is time for the new system...
I am thinking that the fact that I am living in the here and now and trying to find joy and happiness now, and am always striving to improve my current existance instead of living for the evernear new system is a Great thing!!!
